“Squash Blossom Boys’ Debut Album Is Sneaking Up On You”
Summer Olsson, Weekly Alibi
“…A pioneering band in Albuquerque’s Americana scene, the Squash Blossom Boys brings expert musicianship and rollicking energy to standard and original tunes. The squashies have played in various locales—bars, growers’ markets, on tour earlier this year opening for the Meat Puppets, maybe even at your backyard barbecue—and the band’s popularity is on a steady upward climb. But even fans may not know the winding path these bluegrass men have traveled.… “

“All-acoustic band kicks it out at La Cumbre”
Charles C. Poling, Albuquerque Arts
“…These guys kick it out, mixing classic bluegrass standards with original compositions that owe as much to rock in their sensibility and reggae in their sunny disposition as they do to the moonshine-and-leather-shoes legacy of Bill Monroe…[Kit’s] high-energy banjo picking and Malone’s sharp lead lines to Orbesen’s expressive dobro and Lisignoli’s rock-solid time-keeping on bas, it all comes together in consummate bluegrass fashion. When any group of people get together to pursue their shared love of music, great things are always possible."

The Boys introduced a guest fiddler, local musician Aaron Combs, about seven songs in. All told, they performed ten amazing and varied harmonies, from originals (including a song by Kit’s brother which I thoroughly enjoyed) to Jimmy Martin (aka “King of Bluegrass”) tunes and an absolute favorite by Dolly Parton, "I Feel the Blues Movin’ In…"

“The Grass is Bluer”
Mel Minter, Albuquerque Magazine
“…[T]he SBB trademark: interwoven lines of stringed instruments that sound as if they are being played by a single person with Multiple arms.”

"These young men are so very talented and stop in your tracks good! Find them and go listen! You will want to jump up and start dancing -- definitely a feel good experience. They give a performance you won't forget. Each of them bring a practiced artistry to the group and you'll have an opportunity to enjoy each of their talents as well as the combined excellence of the group. This is just from getting to listen to them by accident as I was shopping at Whole Foods, I am a fan!"
